Dance clubs are great places for meeting people. Where else can you walk up to a complete stranger that you find attractive and ask them to spend 5 minutes with you without feeling like a complete idiot? The great thing about dance clubs is the relatively large number of people you can meet in a relatively short time. Dance clubs are perfect places for improving your meeting people skills. You can flirt, exchange eye contact, practice ice breaking techniques and rapidly improve your confidence. But the conversation is usually superficial and people may find it uncomfortable if you try to get too deep and personal in this very informal environment. The challenge with meeting people at a dance club is that you can see what they are from the outside, but it is very difficult to see what they are from the inside. It is extremely difficult to talk at a dance club above the loud music or to have anything more than a superficial conversation. Another challenge may be that many dance clubs are dominated by a particular age range. If you are above 40, you may feel out of place at a dance club which is popular with people 21-25. But if you ask around you should be able to find dance clubs nearby that are popular with people of all ages.Salsa Clubs are much better places to meet people than a regular dance club. Salsa is a rapidly growing trend which is popular among
people of all ages and cultures. If you go to a Salsa club you will see all types of people there, it is not just for the young and elegant. In contrast to a regular dance club, in a Salsa Club a 70 year old will not feel out of place. And if they dance well a 70-year-old will be treated with respect and may be one of the most popular dancers in the club. Salsa is popular in many countries around the world. If you travel, you can find Salsa clubs almost wherever you go. Learning Salsa will open many doors to meeting people.
Almost everyone who learns Salsa takes Salsa lessons in a dance school. Dance schools are great places to meet people. Usually you will change partners frequently; since instructors prefer that you learn how to dance with different people. You are out having fun with strangers who share an interest that you do. Your fellow Salsa students are extremely easy to meet.
Unlike most types of dances you can learn in a school, with Salsa you can meet people outside of the school as well. There are Salsa clubs everywhere. Just look in the internet for Salsa in your area and you will probably find a Salsa club not far away. Tango and Flamingo, for example, are also very cool dances. But once you have learned how to do them, where can you go to dance? They may be fun to learn, but they will not help you to meet people as much as Salsa.
Once you have learned some basic steps, you can go out to a Salsa club, perhaps with other students from the school and practice what you have learned. Salsa is a couple’s dance. At a Salsa Club, people expect you to come up to them and ask them to dance. Since you are dancing closely, you will find it easier to exchange light conversation with your partner than in a regular dance club.
How difficult is it to learn Salsa? Almost anyone can do it. There are three major types of dances played in Salsa clubs, each with
various levels of difficulty. Meringue, Salsa, Bachata. Meringue is extremely easy and can be learned by most people, in one or two lessons.
After two lessons, you will not be the hottest Meringue dancer in the club, but you will know the basics enough to ask someone to dance Meringue with you. Salsa is more complicated. Women can learn the basic steps in 5-10 lessons. Men, since they have to lead, will find it more challenging and may need 10-20 lessons to feel confident. Bachata has a simple basic step that can be learned in a few minutes. To be a great Bachata dancer may take many hours of practice. But since few dance schools spend a lot of time teaching Bachata, few people are very good at it. Knowing the basic steps is enough to ask someone to dance.
Learning Salsa has another advantage. It is extremely cool. If you meet people at a party or somewhere else and they ask what you do for fun, you can tell them that you dance Salsa! Then invite them to a Salsa club to show them a few steps and they will be impressed.
